Ustream – a succesful Hungarian IT startup company - was looking for a large open space office to enhance collaboration and efficiency of work, with adeqauate place for organising meetups for customers and clients. Their choice fell on a historical monument – a department store built at the end of the 19th century in the heart of Budapest, which was recently refurbished as an office building. Our main challange was to keep the industrial look and feel of the building while delivering an office that ensures flexibility and serves the required functions. We connected the three floors with new internal staircases to facilitate circulation. The layout of the offices is entirely open except for the closed meetingrooms tucked in the darker section of the floorplate. We made a variety of informal meeting and focus points spread out on the floorplates: a bar counter with plants integrated, several booths with accoustic cover, gezebos looking down at the office space. The top floor which has a spectecular glass roof and a terrace is used as a break-out and dining area. This floor also houses the weekly meetups. The design features industrial elements such as the concrete like vinyl floor and the custom designed chandeliers and graphics which have the same fragmented pattern. The industrial look is softened by the bold Ustream colors used on the walls and upholsteries.
